I can’t believe it’s Friday already. I really meant to post this much earlier this week, but, well, ya know…

Anyway, the kids have been very patient for the last 3 weekends while we worked in the garden so Sunday, Patrick suggested we go mini-golfing, get ice cream, and go fishing. All three of these things are conveniently located within 10 minutes of each other. Mini-golfing and ice cream were pretty routine (except that PJ was legitimately beating Patrick after the front 9 holes), but fishing was quite an adventure…

We like to fish with live bait and Ty jumped right in.

It didn’t take long for the first fish of the day, and again, Ty was right there.

PJ’s now the fishing pro, using a reel real spinning rod and everything. He’s even graduated to taking his own fish off.

Mia, who spent the first 3 years of her life being squirmish about fish, has overcome her fear and was reeling them in left and right! She caught more than Patrick and PJ combined.

Ty was not so impressed by his first fishing trip and spent much of his time running around (surprise, surprise).

Then the fun began. Mia kept bugging Patrick about when it was time to check for a fish on her line. She just doesn’t understand the whole bobber thing yet. He finally caved and told her to reel it in if it would make her happy. Lo and behold, she pulled in a TURTLE. Even Patrick has never caught a turtle before.

Everyone was back at their respective fishing activity when we heard a blood curdling scream followed by a splash. Our fishing girly-girl, drama queen had flipped out when a bug landed on her and dropped her fishing pole into the pond. Then those pitiful sobs started–like when you let go of a helium balloon outside and you have to watch it dissappear into the big blue sky for forever. Fortunately for Mia, she had just cast an awful (or perfect depending on your perspective) cast through a truss in the pier. That meant Patrick would be able to climb out on the external part of the pier and pull her fishing rod to safety using the line. Great except her reel was open which meant that Patrick had to pull out her entire reel of line before he pulled up the rod. Unfortunately I have no pictures of all of this because I was too busy praying Patrick wouldn’t fall in before the rod was rescued; calming a sad, but hopeful Mia; and making sure that Patrick wouldn’t have to rescue Ty next. Where was PJ during all this comotion you might ask? He was busy catching another first…a fishing rod.

By that time, we figured we had come full circle and packed up to head home.

Foto Friday coming soon…
