“How’s Ty doing?” –such a complicated question.
Mostly, people mean, “How is Ty adjusting?”
Adjustment, attachment, bonding–such complicated subjects.
After a couple days home, we were super-excited that we had left the constant, incosolable crying in Korea. After a couple months home, he was sleeping through the night, calling me “mom,” loving the older kids, and seemingly attached [...]
Not-Me-Monday is a blog carnival started by MckMama. Hop over to her blog to see what others have NOT done this week.
I did NOT travel to the other side of the globe to pick up our third child, take hundreds of pictures, and only get one of our whole family of 5.
It did NOT [...]
A year ago, we were on a plane to pick up Ty! Not sure how we did it, but we (all 6 of us) left 48 hours after receiving our travel call. I made this book as a Christmas present for my mom and mother-in-law.
At prayer time tonight…
Ty: Jesus, dank you I had… What’s dat called ‘gain, Mom?
Me: What is what called again?
Ty: Pich
Me: Pitch?
Ty: No, piiiich (pinching fingers together)
Me: Pinch?
Ty: No. Missue.
Me: Miss Sue?
Ty: Yah. Dank you ‘at Miss Sue today.
Me: Ooooooh. Speech. Is that what you were saying?
Ty: Yah. Dank you I had pee-sch today.
Less than a [...]
As Ty picks up more grammar, phraseology, and vocabulary, we are becoming a bilingual family. Our second language is Ty-ese. While receptive and comprehensive abilities have made huge improvements (our therapists and specialists say they’ve never seen such a large jump in such a short period of time…then again, maybe because they’ve never worked with an [...]
After a short but very sweet (like Ty-got-to-adopt-a-teddy-bear-from-the-judge’s-collection kind of sweet) hearing adoption ceremony,
Ty is officially no longer an orphan.
Ty is officially a tax deduction.
Ty is officially an American.
Ty is officially a Corkum.
Unlike the processes in many other foreign countries that allow children to be adopted into U.S. families, nothing legal happened while we were in Korea. I mean we didn’t do anything illegal. I just mean we didn’t appear before a judge, there was no courtroom, and no final adoption. We merely gained custody. Maybe the [...]
When I returned home from my weekend away last week, Ty and Patrick were super-excited to show me that they had mastered “bagel” while I was away.
“So what?”
While Ty’s speech has come very far in the last 6 months, he struggles with poor enunciation. Being smart and strong-willed, he has figured out when we are [...]
This morning I filed Ty’s finalization paperwork. For Korean adoptions, one does not adopt in country but Korea actually transfers guardianship to our agency. The actual legal adoption takes place about 6 months after placement. We had our last post placement visit yesterday which allowed us to file today. Now we just sit and pray [...]
Ty has made amazing strides in the area of verbalization recently and we’re thrilled!
We are so thrilled that he can talk back and demand “Ty do” in any give situation. Not that we don’t want to foster independence. It’s just that it’s not always possible or convenient.
We are thrilled that he can announce (in the [...]
This blog is a photography-dabbling, veggie-loving, housework-hating, triathlon-trying, grace-needing mom's attempt to capture life as it happens with 3 kids (one adopted from Korea). God's brought me full circle as an adult adoptee also from Korea. We hope you enjoy sharing our journey with us. You can subscribe via email or rss below.
