Timeline Project

Because we’re dividing our history units more geographically than chronologically this year and because I’m a super-visual learner, I thought we needed a timeline. I found this page that had a breakdown for how I should divide the years up since there are obviously too many years to do one year per page. The years are not evenly divided but take into account how much notable history happened during a certain period.

I decided I wanted a wall timeline (rather than a book). I used a half sheet of card stock (cut lengthwise) for each year division. There are about 120 pieces to our timeline. It takes up an entire wall in our hallway.

As we’re doing our history units and come across events with a known date, we make a little illustration and hang them in the appropriate place.  We’ve done things like the fall of Rome, the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World, and Pompeii.

If you’d like to make one for yourself, download this .zip file by right clicking and selecting “Save target as” or whatever your browser’s equivalent is.  It contains a Word document that will reference the enclosed spreadsheet  and create a merge with all the timeline years.

As I mentioned, there are a lot of other ways to create timelines.  If you’ve created one you want to share, join the link up below.   Be sure to grab the blog hop code to add to the bottom of your entry too.
